Olympia Snowe Passes for Bipartisanship

help!

When a single Republican vote is now what passes for bipartisanship, we can call national dialog dead. Political dialog has been in a deep coma now since at least the beginning of the summer, and possibly since much longer than that. We Americans have lost the ability to discuss. For the most part, we can only talk at others of differing viewpoints, and not with them. On both the left and the right, scorn guides verbal exchange. We, as a people, have decided that only fear and the dominance of the majority will determine the outcome of our differences.

And so it is that Senator Snowe becomes the single element that allows us to believe that we have now reached some semblance of consensus. She voted once to move the health care proposal through the finance committee of the US senate, yet will not commit to continuing to favor the legislation that may eventually pass the entire senate.
